A pair of Vernon locals had a strong showing last week at Canada’s longest-running undergraduate business case competition.

Okanagan College business students Jared Hubner and Anthony Peterson finished second in the Management of Information Systems category at the Inter-Collegiate Business Competition, held at Queen’s University in Kingston.

Coming in just behind a strong team from the University of Vermont, Hubner and Peterson impressed the judges with their innovative solution to safely distributing protected course material online.

“Our solution was equal parts preparation and in-the-moment inspiration,” explains Hubner, a third-year Bachelor of Business Administration student, “We came up with an out-of-the-box answer, and I think we had the confidence to do that based on the experience we’ve gained in the classroom.”

The Inter-Collegiate Business Competition is Canada’s oldest and longest-running undergraduate business case competition. This year’s competition featured more than 100 competitors from business schools across Canada and the world.

Okanagan College had one of its best ever showings this year. Along with the MIS team’s strong finish, the College Human Resources team scored first place in their competition and the accounting team finished second.

“It feels incredible to know that we competed and represented O.C. so well and at such a high international level,” explains Peterson, who’s in his fourth year of a BBA degree. “I came away very inspired. It was an experience that will serve me well throughout the rest of my studies and my career.”
