Got a great idea for a community project?

The United Way’s Gennext program and the Central Okanagan Foundation for Youth are teaming up again to offer $2,000 youth initiative grants to deserving projects.

“It is inspiring to see the drive and passion today’s youth have to make meaningful differences in our community,” said Molly Raposo, the foundation’s co-ordinator.

The grants are available to young people up to age 25 who are partnering with an organization to create positive change in their community.

Past projects that received funding include: the Dragonfly Pond Society’s cooking club for youth with disabilities, the Enactus Can$ave school-based, financial literacy program for children, a youth mental health summit for Grade 9-10 students in Penticton and Summerland, and a mural celebrating diversity at KVR Middle School.

Partner organizations can be schools, churches or charities, and the applying youth must reside in either the Central or South Okanagan-Similkameen. Applications are open until March 3.

“We are excited to help youth-led groups carry out their bold ideas for shaping their communities. It is a chance for local youth to build skills and effect positive change in a cause that matters to them,” said the United Way’s Ian Gerbrandt.
