Moving to innovate
Wayne Moore - Feb 25, 2017 - Biz Releases

More than two years after the first shovel entered the ground, the Okanagan Centre for Innovation is ready for its first tenant.

The building is nearly completed, meaning tenants can begin to move in once their space is complete.

BDC, the Business Development Bank of Canada will be the first to move in. They are scheduled to make the move in the middle of next week.

Spokesman Jeff Keen says it’s an exciting time for the tech sector as the building begins to accept tenants.

He says about 80 per cent of the offices within the innovation centre have been leased.

Once they have completed their general improvements, they’ll be able to move in. Keen expects that to happen by the end of June.

Accelerate Okanagan expects to occupy its third floor space by the end of next month.

They will also host the first event in the new centre. Entrepreneurism Unplugged is scheduled for March 6 in the theatre.

Construction on the six-storey, 106,000 square foot innovation centre began Oct. 31, 2014.

It was part of a construction boom in the area around Doyle Avenue and Ellis Street.

That intersection saw construction of the new Interior Health building, an upgrade of the Library Parkade and construction of the new Memorial Parkade.

Construction in the entire area should be complete within the next few months.
